Architecture Major Part-time Summer Job Suggestions?

Hello! I am a SOA University student in TX, but I live in CA and with everything going on with the economy, my funds are fixed and limited, so instead of the typical goal of an internship, I must work in the summer in order to stay in school with the right tools and equipment for the university years to come.

I love being an architecture major, we know that there are so many much needed investments for us, that you are considered a joke if you don’t actually own them or unaware of them…

Question:

What are some examples or suggestions of different as well as irregular volunteer/occupations/resources that are beneficial for Architecture Students during Summer seasonal breaks?

Thanks!

Guinvr: I’m gonna open this up to everyone for answers - drop suggestions in our ask box

Also for some reason tumblr isn’t showing the original person who submitted this when I posted it. It would be much better if y’all posted queries through the ask box instead of the submission box.

How to stop zoning out (due to lack of sleep):

  • Shout at your dog to stop barking
  • Sing loudly to a song on repeat (preferably a sufferingly catchy song: My song of choice is ‘We Are Young’ by Fun.)
  • Procrastinate (a bit) on Tumblr
  • Check Facebook to find out about the extension for a submission
  • ^ Dance
  • Pour caffeine loaded liquids into your body

How do y’all do it?

Don’t do it.

Don’t do it.

What do you do after a really crap critique session?

:(

What? are you kidding me? Having other interests is the only thing that keeps me going in archi school. Call me crazy, but i’m doing a lit minor, piano on weekends, and occasional ice skating. I personally work better after coming back from doing something else, rather than sitting in front of my screen nodding off and generally having low productivity.
But, that might just be me. What do y’all think?

An edited list of commonly asked questions I nicked from a friend’s facebook status. (He is currently studying architecture in Singapore Polytechnic!)

What else have you overheard in your studio?

Any suggestions for architecture-worthy films to watch? (Doesn’t have to be about architecture!)

Old models! What do you do with them? Convert them to pen holders? Use them to prop up a table? Trash them? kick ‘em?
