Sorry, it’s been a bit of a ‘slow news’ period because our uni term is over and there isn’t school related content to be posted. Unless you’d like to see some of my own work for year 2, I could post them, but it’s a bit shabby (and shameless) to post here.
Meanwhile, have a poster of an upcoming exhibition that you might like to attend if you’re in Singapore.

Work from Bartlett School of Architecture is insane. I hate them because there work is soooooo much better than mine and they’re year one…

really cool use of stop-motion though!

Hola desde Barcelona! We’re on our second day of urban studies here in Spain, and we’ve been walking around waayyy too much. Here’s a mapping of a random stroll through the Eixample, which is an super-regulated extension of the old city of Barcelona by Ildefonso Cerdá.
Thanks again for the suggestions you all gave the other time. We’ve made pilgrimages to the Barcelona Pavilion and Sagrada Familia and a few other places besides. :D
See you guys again soon (as and when I have wifi, I guess).

I’m halfway through Ian McEwan’s novel ‘Enduring Love’ (which is really good) but I only realised today that the cover design is by Wilkinson Eyre Architects

The cover design does bear similarities to the Bridge of Aspiration connecting the Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet School in Covent Garden.

Quite nicely rounding up this post, they also designed the new Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, which will be open to the public on 29th June.

Is it just me or is it increasingly difficult to answer the question: ‘what exactly do you learn in architecture’?

…because knowing how design processes are driven by concepts alien to others not in the field, and a need to defend the integrity of the discipline against the accusatory tone of that question -

It is rather difficult to answer.

FIVEFOOTWAY Magazine is now FREE!

fivefootway:

A year ago, we settled on experimenting with digital subscriptions as a revenue stream for FIVEFOOTWAY to ensure sustainability of the project. The bold experiment sent us into new territories and saw us adjusting our rudder a few times along the way as we listened to the feedback that we received from all of you.

Over the past few months, the team has taken all of these information, surveyed the ground and have been charting a course for the future of FIVEFOOTWAY and a few weeks ago, we announced the setting up of our research studio as part of this new strategic direction.

Today, we are pleased to share with you one more thing,

FIVEFOOTWAY Magazine will now be completely free!

All our articles, past, present and future can now be accessed without the hassle of any paywall and we think a lot of you out there will appreciate this. We believe that the removal of this wall will encourage a spread of the ideas that we are exploring at FIVEFOOTWAY and allow more people to get involved in the conversation.

There will be no change to the monthly publishing schedule that we have at the moment and we will continue our commitment to creating a pleasant reading experience, which means that you will not be seeing ugly ads on the site any time soon. The studio and our other partnerships will provide the revenue stream that we need and we will be making out pro-rated refunds to current subscribers.

So what are you waiting for? Go check out the magazine and read it to your heart’s content! www.fivefootway.com/magazine

Awesome stuff! For the uninitiated, Fivefootway is a Singapore-based studio and (monthly) magazine focused on Asian cities. Head over and give it a read!

49.5 hours until the deadline and studio’s a mess. Literally things growing and animals crawling. Architecture students slap spiders with metal rulers and stand on stools when the mice run by.

Approx. 21 hours (42 hours for those having crit on Friday) until our final crit and submission.
(FREEDOM IS NEAR)

Saw this advertisement last night and it really bothered me.

Notwithstanding the architecture, they have portrayed the “architect” as some grand genuis sketching (poorly) some horrendous pile.

Awful, in so many ways.

Thumbs up to the many shots of people looking wistful and satisfied-but-not-too-satisfied.

You can show this to your friends as a good example of what architects don’t actually do.
